Hughie’s first winner came from just his second ever runner, shortly after he had attained his licence. Since then Hughie has trained Champion Sprinters in SAKHEE’S SECRET and PASTORAL PURSUITS, Top Stayers such as ALCAZAR, MARMELO and QUICKTHORN, as well as a number of talented National Hunt horses with the likes of NOT SO SLEEPY, THIRD WIND, FRENCHMAN’S CREEK and MARBLE ARCH all having spent their days under Hughie’s care.
His greatest training feats include winning the July Cup twice, the Goodwood Cup, training the oldest ever Group One Winner in the U.K., Ireland and France in ALCAZAR, and landing a Grade 1 over hurdles with NOT SO SLEEPY in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.
